As is the case for the majority of the diesel products sold on Tamerx Diesel Products, your part's warranty is active as soon as you install it. In some other cases, warranty activation is contingent upon you sending us your core (i.e., your old part). Tamerx Diesel Products will provide you a return shipping label for parts that have a warranty with a core return condition. When we have received your core return, the part's warranty coverage begins. We reserve the right to void the product warranty if your core is not received within the allotted time, or if it isn't received at all. If the warranty for the diesel part you are purchasing has a core return requirement, it will be clearly noted on the product detail page/item listing.

What is a Core Charge?

A core charge (also called "core deposit") is similar to the deposit you might pay for a can or bottle of soda and is a standard requirement in the auto parts industry. For example, in many states, to promote recycling, you pay a deposit when you purchase a can of soda and receive your deposit back when you return the empty can. Many automotive parts have a core charge, or core price, that works in essentially the same way as a soda can deposit.

30 Day Core Charge Hold

You authorize Tamerx Diesel Products, to hold your credit card for the specified core charge amount and that you agree to return your core with 30 days of receiving the purchased part. When we have received your core return, the hold is released and the core charge payment is canceled.

The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler is a crucial component in your vehicle's emissions control system, helping to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by cooling exhaust gases before they are recirculated into the engine. Regular maintenance of the EGR cooler is essential to ensure optimal engine performance and longevity. Understanding how often an EGR cooler should be cleaned or replaced can help you maintain your vehicle’s efficiency and avoid potential issues.

Maintaining the EGR cooler is vital for ensuring your vehicle's emissions system functions correctly and your engine runs efficiently. Over time, the EGR cooler can become clogged or damaged, affecting its performance. Knowing the recommended intervals for cleaning or replacing your EGR cooler can help you avoid engine problems and maintain your vehicle’s health.

  • Manufacturer’s Recommendations

    •  Most vehicle manufacturers provide guidelines on the maintenance and replacement intervals for various components, including the EGR cooler. Typically, EGR coolers should be inspected every 50,000 to 80,000 miles, but this can vary depending on the make and model of your vehicle.

  • Driving Conditions

    •  The lifespan of an EGR cooler can be influenced by driving conditions. Vehicles frequently driven in stop-and-go traffic, short trips, or dusty environments may require more frequent EGR cooler cleaning or replacement. These conditions can cause quicker buildup of soot and debris, leading to clogging.

  • Symptoms of Clogging

    • Pay attention to symptoms that indicate the EGR cooler may need cleaning. These include reduced engine performance, increased fuel consumption, excessive exhaust smoke, and the check engine light. If you notice any of these signs, it may be time to clean or replace the EGR cooler.

  • Regular Inspections

    •  Regularly inspecting your vehicle’s EGR cooler can help detect early signs of clogging or damage. During routine maintenance, have your mechanic check the condition of the EGR cooler to ensure it is functioning correctly.

  • Preventative Cleaning

    • Preventative cleaning of the EGR cooler can help extend its lifespan and maintain engine performance. Many mechanics recommend cleaning the EGR cooler every 30,000 to 50,000 miles, especially if you drive under harsh conditions.

  • Replacement Guidelines

    • While cleaning can extend the life of an EGR cooler, it will eventually need to be replaced. If the EGR cooler shows signs of significant wear, corrosion, or damage that cleaning cannot resolve, it should be replaced to prevent engine problems.

In conclusion, the frequency of cleaning or replacing an EGR cooler depends on manufacturer recommendations, driving conditions, and the presence of clogging symptoms. Regular inspections and preventative cleaning every 30,000 to 50,000 miles can help maintain your EGR cooler's performance and extend its lifespan. By following these guidelines and addressing issues promptly, you can ensure your vehicle runs efficiently and avoid costly engine repairs. If you suspect problems with your EGR cooler, consult a professional mechanic for a thorough inspection and necessary maintenance or replacement.

Failure may cause coolant loss, overheating, white smoke, reduced engine power, and warning lights.

A clogged cooler restricts exhaust flow, leads to increased exhaust temperatures, loss of efficiency, and higher emissions.

Coolant flows through internal channels, absorbing heat from the exhaust gases before recirculation.

Ignoring a failing cooler can lead to engine overheating, head gasket damage, and severe internal engine problems.
