2023 Chevy Express To Drop Duramax Turbo-Diesel 2.8L Engine

Chevy Express's 2.8L Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine will no longer be available in 2023.
The Duramax engine is a torque-rich and fuel-efficient 2.8L I4 LWN turbo-diesel..The 2023 Chevy Express won't be able to be bought with this four-cylinder diesel engine, according to GM Authority, as the American automaker has opted to remove it from the van's list of available options.
The turbocharged diesel four-cylinder engine will no longer be available for the Chevy Express in 2023, but there will still be two options for naturally aspirated gasoline engines. The 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine's natural aspiration rating is 276 horsepower at 5,200 rpm, while the 4.3L V6 LV1 engine's natural aspiration rating is 298 pound-feet of torque at 3,900 rpm and 4,064 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm.
The diesel engine, as we already noted, had the lowest towing capacities of the three options, but it was the only diesel engine offered for the van, and it offered decent fuel economy because, among other things, to its smaller displacement and eight-speed transmission. Recall that the 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque of the 2.8L turbo-diesel Duramax engine in the Chevy Express and closely comparable GMC Savana.
The GM eight-speed automatic transmission made especially for diesel engines will no longer be available for the 2023 Chevy Express (RPO code RQD). The 4.3L V6 and 6.6L V8 engine options are coupled to the (M5U) GM eight-speed automatic and (MYD) GM six-speed automatic transmissions, respectively.
The 2023 Chevy Express will begin production at the GM Wentzville factory in Missouri. The Chevy Savana Cargo, Passenger, and Cutaway models are constructed at the GM Wentzville plant, while the Express Cutaway is also produced by Navistar at a different location in Springfield, Ohio. The utility van is supported by the GMT 610 platform, designed primarily for full-size utility vans like the Express and GMC Savana.
