Cummins introduces three X-series engines of the future generations.

Tank truck drivers and fleet managers should find these three Cummins Inc. engines appealing. The main features are an innovative single-module aftertreatment system that frees up frame rail space, a powerful, economical engine with a longer service life and a significantly quieter engine.

As part of the media event introducing the three next-generation X-series engines (replacing the ISX-series) at the 4,500-acre Transportation Research Center south of Columbus, Ohio, the big-bore X15 Performance and X15 Efficiency and the medium-bore X12 were tested on the research center's 7.2-mile test track.

Heavy-duty, professional, and emergency vehicles are the ideal complement for the 485–605 horsepower X15 Performance Series. Among the target customers are fleets of long-distance tank trucks and those using machinery with higher gross combined weights.

Increased driveability at full payload and steep grade climbing is made possible by a redesigned high flow air-handling system, which provides faster pedal response. Peak torque of up to 2050 lb-ft may be delivered over a very wide range of engine rpms, which lowers fuel consumption and the amount of shifting needed. With up to 600 hp at 2,100 rpm and more than 450 hp at just 1,500 rpm, engine braking is equally as powerful.
