WORKING HEAVY HAULER-DURAMAX EDITION AT ITS BEST

We elevated a very normal Chevrolet 3500 dually to a whole new level with a number of components designed to make this truck even better for working and hauling. In order to upgrade the 01 Factory transmission lines on the Allison-equipped Duramax trucks that have historically been prone to leaks while replacing worn, fractured, and leaking stock lines, Deviant Race Parts developed a 12-inch industrial strength hydraulic line system.Since increasing horsepower was part of the plan, there was no need to go overboard with it. The only significant power upgrades came from the inclusion of custom EFI Live tuning from Duramaxtuner.com. A cold-air intake, a 4-inch exhaust, a BD Diesel Flowmax lift pump, and a Deviant high flow turbo inlet horn were also added, however these additions were made to improve engine efficiency rather than to boost power.

ADVANCED OBSERVATIONS

The truck's increased versatility allowed it to be utilized more effectively throughout the ranch it was intended for thanks to the inclusion of the Titan Hammerhead transfer tank and toolbox and the Bradford Built Workbed. Due to the necessity to move enormous hay bales, convey gasoline to the field combine, and simply have a place to store tools for unplanned farm equipment maintenance, these modifications have essentially become mandatory. The 16.5 Warn winch and Road Armor bumper have provided a sense of stability and strength when things get difficult. When inspecting cows at night on the range, the additional off road lighting offered by the Warn lights put in the bumper has also been a nice addition. After installing the exhaust brake from BD Diesel, the owner states he wouldn't be able to function without it. The additional holdback power eases the stress on the truck's factory brakes and improves control of the truck's speed while also making towing simpler and safer for loads.

TRANSMISSION LINES DRP

The standard GM Allison transmission lines routinely leak after being subjected to hundreds of miles of on- and off-road abuse, and this truck was no exception. Leaks were starting to occur at the cooler, so it was the perfect time to make a modification. Deviant Race Parts of Hayden, Idaho created a comprehensive replacement performance hose system as their own answer. By using the 12-inch or 5-/8-inch 1,500 psi hydraulic line of your choice and the required connectors to connect your Allison to the factory cooler, leaks can be a thing of the past. Once mounted and fastened, your normal or custom Allison can continue to drive your vehicle down the road without concern thanks to high-quality AN-style fittings with double O-ring and washer-style joints. Depending on your level of proficiency, you may do the alteration in a matter of hours. Just be aware that it will be challenging to remove the stock lines because they are laced through the chassis and will need some dexterity.

Rare Steering Parts

The GM steering design used beneath these 2500HD and 3500 trucks has historically been prone to early wear and slop, so this truck with 69,000 miles needed a few upgrades. The Rare Parts steering pitman, idler, and tie-rods from Alligator Performance offer unmatched lifespan and performance due to their greater size and superior craftsmanship. The Pitman and Idler Arms are made of cold-headed, hardened, and annealed 4140 30mm complete ball studs for excellent wear resistance and to prevent binding. The arm is larger and has been heat-treated and forged for maximum strength. The grease fitting has also been relocated for easier service access.

The thousands of stories we hear from owners who have broken down in 44 situations that put enough strain and binding on the front axle to snap the tie-rod shaft and leave you stranded are evidence that the OEM tie-rods have always seemed a little short for the job. The aftermarket has been able to help with some of this by selling a low-cost tie rod sleeve that was previously put on this truck. The tie-rod end's factory-installed durability, however, is unaffected by the sleeves. The tie-rod end needed to be replaced as well because of deterioration and too much play in it. On the Rare Parts extreme duty tie rod, the massive 1.5-inch rod end forging offers unparalleled strength. Like the pitman and idler arms, they are heat treated and have a full ball stud design for durability.

These parts are all more durable than the factory ones, despite the fact that they are all straightforward replacements and don't require any installation modifications. Customers of Alligator Performance have nothing but good things to say about the longevity and durability of this steering system. It is advised as the only remedy for the GM steering problems.

GENERAL GRABBER

In addition to being able to pull loads that were extremely heavy, the tire for this enormous, heavy dually needed to be able to keep the vehicle going in hazardous mud and snow conditions. The General Grabber AT2 provides the highest level of versatility due to its distinctive 5-row tread pattern with double-V-shaped lugs. This design promotes off-road grip with longer tire life and an acoustically quiet highway ride. Given that this vehicle would be needed to get around the ranch throughout the winter, the Grabber AT2 also offers excellent snow and ice performance and can be studded if necessary. For this design, a tire that was slightly taller than usual but yet thin enough to fit in the rear dual position without touching on the inside was chosen, measuring 235/85R16. To handle the heavy towing weight, we naturally went with the Load Range E tire, which has a 60,000-mile trade wear warranty.

Extreme wheels

The custom black powder coated Road Armor bumper and Bradford Built work bed were already enhancements for the truck, so it only made sense to upgrade the simple gray steel wheels as the tires were being mounted. What the doctor ordered was Ultra Motorsports' dually Predator wheel. There are options for 16" and 17" diameters, but we went with the standard 166 in gloss black and machined. Thanks to the Ultra Predator, the outside of this work vehicle has experienced a significant transformation. It no longer resembles a farm truck in the traditional sense; rather, it has an aggressive look that goes well with the black and white color scheme.
