We will do everything we can to make sure that you get the service you need. We understand how important it is to receive your order as quickly as possible.
In most cases Tamerx Diesel Products only needs one address, as long as your product is shipping to the same location as your billing information. In order to eliminate credit card fraud, your billing information must match the credit card you provide.
The terms, conditions, and details of our warranty vary from product to product. Specific warranty details can be found below.
Tamerx provides a replacement warranty on all of our parts. The duration and mileage limitations of the warranty vary by product and are specified on the product's detail page/item listing.
Please note that the warranty covers replacement of the part and the cost of shipping the replacement part to you only. It does not cover any shop, labor, towing, or any similar or related costs. This is not a "money back guarantee".
If you experience a problem with your part or it is not functioning properly, the correct warranty procedure is to call us at (510) 257-1777 (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM ET Monday through Friday). Be sure to have your order number and/or other relevant order information ready so we can easily locate your order and resolve your issue as quickly as possible. From that point, we will review with you any troubleshooting steps that may need to be taken and other areas or systems that can be checked to rule out external problems contributing to your part's issue. If a replacement is determined to be necessary, we will then arrange for your replacement part to ship out ASAP and issue any necessary return shipping labels and/or documents.
As is the case for the majority of the diesel products sold on Tamerx, your part's warranty is active as soon as you install it. In some other cases, warranty activation is contingent upon you sending us your core (i.e., your old part). Tamerx will provide you a return shipping label for parts that have a warranty with a core return condition. When we have received your core return, the part's warranty coverage begins. We reserve the right to void the product warranty if your core is not received within the allotted time, or if it isn't received at all. If the warranty for the diesel part you are purchasing has a core return requirement, it will be clearly noted on the product detail page/item listing.
What is a Core Charge?
A core charge (also called "core deposit") is similar to the deposit you might pay for a can or bottle of soda and is a standard requirement in the auto parts industry. For example, in many states, to promote recycling, you pay a deposit when you purchase a can of soda and receive your deposit back when you return the empty can. Many automotive parts have a core charge, or core price, that works in essentially the same way as a soda can deposit.
30 Day Core Charge Hold
You authorize Tamerx Diesel Products, to hold your credit card for the specified core charge amount and that you agree to return your core with 30 days of receiving the purchased part. When we have received your core return, the hold is released and the core charge payment is canceled.

The Detroit 12.7L Turbo Assembly (OEM 171702) is a vital component that helps the engine make efficient use of exhaust energy while maintaining the airflow needed for proper operation. Used on Detroit Diesel Series 60 applications, this turbocharger plays a major role in supporting combustion, airflow management, and overall engine function.
Rather than allowing exhaust gases to exit the engine unused, the turbo assembly captures that energy and converts it into a force that helps move fresh air into the intake system.
Key Functions of the Detroit 171702 Turbo Assembly
- Utilizes exhaust energy efficiently
- The turbo uses exhaust flow to spin an internal turbine, transforming wasted energy into useful airflow.
- Compresses incoming air
- By increasing the amount of air entering the engine, it helps create the conditions necessary for efficient combustion.
- Supports airflow under varying operating conditions
- The turbo continuously responds to changing engine demands, helping maintain consistent airflow.
- Promotes effective combustion
- A steady supply of compressed air helps fuel burn more completely inside the cylinders.
- Coordinates intake and exhaust flow
- The turbo acts as a bridge between the intake and exhaust systems, helping them work together efficiently.
- Contributes to smooth engine operation
- Proper airflow management supports reliable performance and helps maintain system balance.
The Detroit 171702 Turbo Assembly serves as the engine's airflow management system, directing and regulating the movement of air throughout the engine. By converting exhaust energy into usable airflow, it helps support combustion, maintain engine efficiency, and keep critical systems operating in harmony.
A turbo assembly is a complete turbocharger unit that helps improve engine efficiency by forcing compressed air into the combustion chamber. By increasing airflow, the turbo allows the engine to burn fuel more effectively and maintain reliable operation under demanding conditions.
Because the turbo assembly operates in an environment of extreme heat and high rotational speeds, proper maintenance is essential for long-term durability.
Here are some important things to know about your turbo assembly:
- It relies heavily on clean engine oil
- The turbo's bearings are lubricated by engine oil. Dirty, contaminated, or low oil levels can quickly lead to premature wear and internal damage.
- It spins at extremely high speeds
- Turbochargers can operate at more than 100,000 RPM, making them highly sensitive to contamination and lubrication issues.
- Airflow is critical to its operation
- Restricted air filters, damaged intake hoses, or charge air leaks can reduce turbo efficiency and increase wear.
- Heat is one of its biggest challenges
- Continuous exposure to high exhaust temperatures can stress internal components over time, especially if proper warm-up and cool-down practices are not followed.
- Small issues can become major repairs
- Unusual noises, oil leaks, excessive exhaust smoke, or reduced engine responsiveness should be inspected as soon as possible.
- Regular inspections can prevent unexpected failures
- Checking oil condition, air filters, hoses, clamps, and intercooler connections can help identify problems before they affect turbo operation.
Understanding how your turbo assembly works and recognizing early warning signs can help you maximize its lifespan, reduce downtime, and avoid costly repairs.
The center housing utilizes an oil-cooled design that helps lubricate and cool the rotating assembly during operation.
The turbo features an extended-tip compressor wheel design intended to improve airflow efficiency and compressor performance.
The turbo is frequently found in Class 8 trucks, fleet tractors, vocational trucks, and industrial equipment powered by Detroit Diesel Series 60 12.7L engines.
Yes. The 171702 is supplied as a complete turbocharger assembly containing the compressor housing, turbine housing, center housing, and rotating assembly.
